5 No Fail Interior Color Combos

Interior color combos can be tricky. Especially if you’re drawn to ambitious, eclectic, or whimsical interior designs like myself. If you’re indecisive, this can add another layer of difficulty to your process and ultimately lead to an unguided design. Nobody wants that! Though you may consider yourself a rebel, with the urge to go against the design grain, you don’t want to end up with a color mess of a room. Instead, why don’t you take a look at a few of my favorite “no-fail” interior color combos that will have you on track to creating a seamless home design. I’ve put together a few mood boards for inspiration. I promise to give you a few “safe” examples along with a couple of ambitious arrangements. For continuity, we’ll look at a few bedroom designs.

Blue and White

Blue and white is definitely a safer color combo, but has the potential to reach quite a few different styles. For example, beachy designs may use light blues and beige accents, while bohemian designs go for indigo shades and cognac accents. Here I’ve gone for a simple modern design.

Pink and Green

Here’s where interior color combos can get a bit ambitious. The pink and green color scheme is actually one of my favorites. Why? Because you can be as safe or as daring as you’d like with this combo. If you prefer to be more discreet in your use of pink and green, go for pastel shades. If you’re drawn to bolder designs, the sky is the limit, however all shades of neon should be avoided.

Black and White

A black and white color combo has endless variety. Why? Because you can drop in a pop of additional color at any time. Switch out a throw pillow, blanket, and colorful flowers here and there, and give your room an inexpensive makeover whenever the wind blows. Black and white designs can often come off as formal or cold. Throw in a bit of wood or wicker to increase the warmth.

Monochromatic

Monochromatic interior color combos have the potential to mirror a professional look, while being the easiest to implement. That’s the goal right? Most items are a shade of one color, making for a smooth shopping trip with minimal debates or decisions. Once you’ve decided on a shade of paint for the walls, which I know is a hefty task in itself, the rest is easy peasy!

Neutrals

Neutral color combos are the easiest of all, which is probably why they’re the most popular choice. Creams, whites, and browns easily pair well across many styles. With this combo, you’ll have the luxury of layering various textures.

There are a host of colors to choose from out there, making the decision that much harder. So I hope I’ve done some of the hard work for you, and given you some inspiration to tackle your next room’s color combo with ease. What colors do you have in mind? Tell me in the comments!

Thanks Kate! I completely understand! When you have so many great design ideas and want to incorporate them all, it can be hard to decide on just one. I’ve totally been there.
