5 of the Best Nursery Paint Colors

If you’re gearing up for a new nursery design or makeover, the best nursery paint colors are sure to be on your mind. With so many shades out there, your brain may be spinning with options. Well, don’t fret, we’ve got you covered here.

I recently completed a nursery makeover for my little one and the possibilities were endless. However, you don’t have to go down the rabbit hole I did, because the hard work has already been done for you!

We’ve narrowed down your options to 5 of the best nursery paint colors based on recent experience and research. Let me preface this by saying that if you believe that color effects the feel of a space, and can help create a calm environment for your new little package, then you’re already ahead of the game.

These colors will speak to your soul! Okay, a little dramatic I know, but seriously, you’ll at least be excited to narrow down your choice to one of these gorgeous shades.

Let’s get to it.

Swiss Coffee, Benjamin Moore

This creamy shade of white is the perfect amount of clean and airy, combined with creamy and smooth as butter. It’s definitely got a warm touch to it without being too yellow or brown. It really is the perfect neutral for any nursery looking to feature a few other colors or specialized furniture pieces. See the beautiful nursery designed by Mollie over at Design Loves Detail for more inspiration.

You’d especially love Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee for its calming effect, being easy on the eyes. Some whites lean towards the bright side acting more as a stimulant, or can be a bit stark, making the room feel cold. While others are too yellow or red which aren’t calming for the eyes at all. This shade is the perfect “in between.

Also, if you are looking for a color that will transition easily with your little tot’s room makeovers over time, this is the color for you.

Intimate White, Sherwin Williams

Yes, technically Intimate White is in the Sherwin Williams family of white shades. However, the pink undertones are highlighted, making this color soft blush.

It’s an awesome color for the mom or dad that want that understated pink nursery that tickles the eye. If you want to go pink, but are shy about committing to a strong shade, this is the color for you.

Privilege Green, Sherwin Williams

Now let’s get into a color on the list that’s a bit more daring. By daring I mean, adventurous for a nursery. Privilege Green by Sherwin Williams isn’t the normal soft hue you’d come by for a nursery, but it’s potential is enormous. Check out the wonderful nursery by Michelle at Decor and the Dog for some inspiration.

When paired with soft tones like off whites or pastels like blush, powder blues, and canary, this color is both satisfying and calming. Not to mention, green is very serene and is often recommended for spaces in which you want to be soothed. It’s safe to say any place where baby is sleeping you want them to feel soothed right? If so, this shade of green is the way to go.

Plus, think of all the directions you could go with it! Rustic garden, whimsical treehouse, or even a child friendly take on modern Victorian. Sorry if I’ve sent you down a rabbit hole of nursery themes now. Just know that this shade will not disappoint.

Lulworth Blue, Farrow & Ball

Looking to be a little daring in the shade of blue? Lulworth Blue by Farrow & Ball has got you covered. Traditionally, light blue has been used in many nurseries for its soft and soothing qualities. Lulworth blue, however, gives you a bit more saturation and light, while holding on to the same qualities.

The example below by designer Giancarlo Valle is more of a child’s room, rather than a nursery, but it gives you a great idea at how this shade would look as a nursery.

It’s not too light or too dark, but rather meets in the middle, making an eye intriguing color. Paired with crisp whites, navy, and light to medium wood stained furniture this color can make a nursery fun and inviting without overpowering the room.

Frosted Veil, Lullaby Paints

It wouldn’t be right to do a roundup of the best nursery paint colors without throwing in a good grey. We actually stumbled onto this color while searching for a creamy white to paint our nursery walls. Upon receiving the sample swatch in the mail, we realized there was an apparent hint of grey. However, we still moved forward with this option and didn’t look back!

Frosted Veil by Lullaby Paints has so many surprises packed in one shade. If you’re looking for a subtle grey that you can pair with just about any nursery design, this color is for you. Also, depending on how natural light hits the walls, you will see hints of lilac.

Chic Girl Nursery Grey Walls

Some days this shade may appear white, while others it may appear grey or lilac – so many surprises. Not to mention, Lullaby Paints are designed to be safe for expectant mothers and babies to be around, with no VOC and low odors. Overall, Frosted Veil won’t let you down.

Whether you want to tone it down with some subtle soothing shades or be a little ambitious with a fun hue, these 5 nursery paint colors have you covered. From subtle to saturated, splashing one of these colors on your nursery walls will please your little one’s eyes and hopefully sooth them into some good zzz’s.
