Mood board reveals are one of my favorite ways to get the ball rolling on a room makeover I’m just itching to launch. Today is no different. This dark and moody powder room mood board has me a little giddy and excited. Maybe it’s because I’ve been wanting to go dark in a small space for a long time.

When I started my journey on this blog, I couldn’t get enough of dark walls in small rooms. It was something we were traditionally told not to do. Something about making the room feel smaller (blah, blah, blah). Now we see them more often because designers and homeowners are embracing breaking the rules. I for one am all about breaking the rules, especially if it gets you a dramatic upgrade in your space.

I’m also excited about this makeover because, not only would it be a dramatic upgrade, it will be a quick upgrade. In the land of design and DIY, dramatic and quick upgrades are achievements to be proud of. They say paint is the quickest and cheapest way to transform a space, and this makeover is no different. Most of the foundational pieces in this powder room will remain the same, but the paint really takes center stage and gives the room a completely new look.

Take a look at the first makeover process, when the original space took on a bright and chic transformation. Here’s a closer look at how it looks at the moment.

As you can see below, there are only a few updates given – paint, artwork, accessories. Though, the space looks completely different. I’m a little sad to see the bright blush walls go. However, I’m excited to go dark with this quick upgrade! I’ll get more into this below, but for now here’s a look at the dark and moody powder room mood board.

Design Process

As you know, we are in the process of completing our Modern Classic Bedroom Makeover. Therefore, making over any other area of our home hadn’t even crossed my mind. However, several weeks ago I got the opportunity to try out the PPG Paints Timeless paint in a color of my choosing. Immediately I thought, why not go dark in the powder room?! This could be a quick update and I was excited to try the PPG Timeless formula that boasts one coat will do the trick.

While I love how the blush walls create a calming yet happy and bright atmosphere at the moment, I’ve been craving a dark and moody makeover for years!

For the paint, I debated between various shades of blue and green. I was drawn to green for the bathroom as it seemed a bit warmer and complemented the current fixtures well. Ultimately, I decided on a shade called “Plunge Pool.” This shade seemed a bit muted, but cozy for such a small space so I thought it was perfect.

I came across the floral artwork at Juniper Print Shop, which brightened up the space a bit. Floral artwork always makes me feel happy, especially in a space where real flowers or plants wouldn’t survive.

Those are the two biggest changes for this room, and I’m excited to see how everything turns out. Going from bright and chic to dark and moody is an experience I’ve been craving, and I can’t wait to share this quick process with you.
